New goals… YUCK! weight loss
O.K. my half is done, time to set some new goals. I would like to conquer my hand to mouth disease. I am 5′7″ and weigh 148. At my leanest and meanest the best I could get was 135 for about a month. I was teaching aerobics, living single, and eating better. Eating is the hardest thing for me to do right. I’ve given up drugs, alcohol, ciggarettes, caffeine, and sweets. Now if I could just give up peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches with potatoe chips for lunch, and chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner, I’d be doing great. I would like to set a goal of losing 8 pounds by Christmas. I don’t have a lot of hope, because even as I sit here typing, I’m thinking of having something to eat. The good thing is that wrestling season is starting soon and I always seem to cook better for my boys then. More lean protein and fruits and veggies. I have the knowledge but no self control. If anyone has any suggestions short having my mouth wired shut or breaking my arms. I’d love to hear it.

Food is such a tricky one… it’s so hard to reprogram yourself to ‘default’ to the healthy choices… I think the problem is that humans #1 survival skill has been our ability to maintain calorie stores in incredibly barren environments… but alas, we aren’t living in an ice age anymore, and calories are so easy to come by… our cave man brains have millions of years of evolution telling them to “eat everything you see, just in case we don’t see food for another 3 weeks!”.
Anyway, good luck on taking on the food!
I am working to convince myself it’s time for me to take this on as well!

I wish I had advice for you, but unfortunately I don’t! I suffer the same ailment — I know exactly what I should do, but can’t seem to stop reaching for those delectable tidbits. So while maybe I can’t help, at least we can make this journey together!

I’m going to offer some disgusting advice—If your food is not moving through you easily, then your diet may need some tweaking in a way that promotes healthful, REGULAR digestion.
At the risk of sounding like a fruitcake, I’m a huge believer in Peter D’Amo’s Eat Right for Your Blood Type. Each of the blood types (O, A, B, A/B) have different catagories of food that are beneficial, neutral or should be avoided. I’m Type A–and peanut butter is on that beneficial foods list for my blood type. I introduced lots of healthful things into my diet (soy milk, rice milk) and more whole grains (but careful on too much wheat) and limiting protein (body does not process it well). Reducing eggs and milk made a big difference.
D’Amo is a homeopathic physician. You can find his website here: http://www.dadamo.com/ I only recommend it because my own results were incredible. And when I followed it rigidly for about 1 month, my seasonal allergies abated. But I’d be lying if I told you that I follow the diet rigidly, now. However, even modest incorporations are helpful. If for some reason you are Type A, I created an excel spreadsheet for Type A folks, and I’d be happy to upload it and give you a link.
